Are Your Training Systems Out Of Date?

Imagine you just hired a new team member. They have all the skills, qualifications and experience you’re looking for. Does that mean you can leave them to do their thing? No way! All practices are different. Before they can start working, the new hire has to learn how your practice works.

Every new hire needs training. That’s why you have training manuals.

The problem is, those training manuals are probably out of date. You dig them out, brush off the dust and wonder, “What was the last time someone used this?” Training manuals aren’t very helpful when they were written 20 years ago!

When systems are out of date (like those training manuals), your practice becomes people dependent. Nobody refers to those old, dusty manuals anymore. They just know how your practice works. Every time your new hire has a question, they have to track down the one person who knows the answer. It shouldn’t be that difficult!

The solution is simple: keep your training manuals up to date. Put a “revise by” date on all your manuals so they reflect how your practice operates today. Proper training will help new hires feel welcome and set them up for success.
