3 Reset Rituals When The Schedule Spirals
You had the perfect day planned. Every appointment strategically placed. Buffer time built in. Your hygienist prepped. You even remembered to eat breakfast! Then your hygienist texts at 7:15am—she’s got the flu. Your 9am shows up without the pre-treatment x-rays you requested. The lab calls about a crown redo…. and it’s only 9:30.
As one domino after another topples, it can feel like the rest of your day is ruined. But it doesn’t have to be. When your schedule spirals, you need rituals that help you reset:
Step 1: Stop and Breathe (Just 30 Seconds). Before you react, pause. Take three deep breaths. Not to achieve inner peace—to interrupt the panic response that’s about to make you snap at everyone nearby. Thirty seconds now saves thirty minutes of cleanup later, and all it takes is a moment to re-center yourself.
Step 2: Reset the Big Stuff, Ignore the Little Things. Your schedule just imploded. You don’t have time to fix everything, so stop trying to fix everything. What’s the emergency? What can wait? What’s annoying but ultimately doesn’t matter? Whatever it is, delegate it. Focus only on what moves the needle today, and let the rest go.
Step 3: Lean on Your Team (They’re Waiting to Help). You’re not resetting alone. Your team is right there, waiting for permission to help. Tell them what’s happening: “Today went sideways. Here’s what I need.” They’ll step up faster than you think—because they know success is a team effort.
Stop the Spiral Before It Takes You Down
One chaotic morning doesn’t have to become a chaotic day. A chaotic day doesn’t have to destroy your week. Don’t let the domino effect of a few disruptions derail your practice. Next time your schedule spirals, pause, prioritize, and lean on your team.
Leadership isn’t about avoiding chaos—because you can’t! It’s about knowing how to reset when chaos shows up anyway.
