Create Alignment Through Repetition

I’ve spoken with many dentists who feel like their teams don’t “get it,” even though they’ve shared their vision and expectations with their teams. If this is the case in your practice, you may feel like your team doesn’t care, but the truth is that they’re unclear, unaligned, or uninspired. That gap is costing you time, energy, and profit, and closing it starts with you as the leader.

Kirk often says that “Any crack in alignment between leaders blinds everyone else,” and it’s the truth. You need alignment to have a team that functions well, but that alignment doesn’t happen by accident — it’s built through consistent leadership rhythms that connect everyone to the “why” behind your vision. To that end, you must take on the role of the Chief Reminding Officer and help create that connection. As the CRO, it’s your job to use the power of repetition to:

  • Build trust and predictability. Trust is the foundation of any successful team, and you will foster that trust by maintaining consistency in your communication. The more you repeat your vision, values, and priorities, the more you’ll create an environment of predictability. Your team will know exactly what the rules are and what to expect, which will ensure they’ll thrive.
  • Amplify your influence. When you repeat your messaging, it creates a Compounding Effect of Repetition that not only reinforces the messages — it amplifies them. Over time, the messages embed themselves in your team’s culture, which creates a ripple effect: as your team internalizes and repeats the messages, they start to influence others.
  • Utilize stories to spread your message. Data shows us that stories are 22 times more memorable than facts alone, so in order to maximize your role as CRO, you must use storytelling to bring your vision to life. What’s more, people resonate more with stories, because they find bits and pieces that they resonate with, or build visuals for themselves while their story is told that they can recall more easily. This type of connection will ensure that your vision and expectations stick.

Ultimately, your team isn’t going to “get it” if they cannot see it, hear it, or feel it, and that starts with you. When you become the CRO and begin connecting clarity, communication, accountability, and purpose, your team will finally “get it” and transform from compliant to committed.
