Twin Creeks Family Dentistry
You can run a practice through sheer force of will. Plenty of owners do… for a while. What nobody warns you about is how it feels: like you’re white-knuckling it through the day, all day, every day.
Dr. Anisha Patel and her husband Travis, who runs operations and technology at Twin Creeks Family Dentistry, know that feeling well. For months, then years, it took over everything— scrambling at 8am, still working through it at 5pm, weekends gone too. “There wasn’t any point where it felt like we were ever turning the ownership switch off,” Dr. Patel says. There was no
version of waking up that didn’t come with some dread about walking back in.
That’s not sustainable. And here’s the part that’s easy to miss when you’re in the middle of it: if you’re feeling that way, your team is feeling it too.
The Fix Wasn’t More Effort. It Was Clarity.
The shift at Twin Creeks didn’t come from working harder. It came from getting intentional about what the practice stood for, then building systems and habits to back it up—together, as co-owners, and with the team brought into that process instead of left to guess.
That meant sitting down and defining real core values, not generic ones borrowed from somewhere else. Dr. Patel remembers watching the team’s faces shift when she and Travis presented those values out loud for the first time—the energy in the room changing as everyone realized where the practice was headed. It meant prioritizing the team’s lives outside the office as
seriously as the patient experience inside it, because once people feel that their time matters, they start protecting yours too.
This is the same idea behind what’s sometimes called the salt shaker theory of leadership: the vision drifts constantly, and the leader’s job isn’t to prevent that—it’s to keep calmly moving it back to center.
Profitability Followed. It Didn’t Lead.
Run the business ethically. Put the team first. Put the patient experience first. Do those things consistently, and profitability comes—not as the goal you chased, but as the result of everything else finally working.
Once the systems were in place and the team had real ownership of their part in it, the day-to-day at Twin Creeks got lighter. Tasks got delegated instead of absorbed. There was more energy, daily, weekly, and monthly—with less effort, not more. Time is the new currency, and a team that trusts its leaders gives that currency back.
The biggest difference, in Dr. Patel’s own words, wasn’t a number on a P&L. It was simpler than that: “I don’t feel like I carry that stress home with me anymore.” Turns out culture is everything.
If your practice feels like it’s running on sheer will right now, that’s exactly the kind of shift Pro Coaching is built to help you make.
